Air-Fryer Fusion Meatballs in Brown Sauce
Grass-fed beef meatballs air-fried for a tender, browned finish and tossed in a silky coconut-bone broth brown sauce. Allspice and nutmeg give a warming depth while keeping the dish entirely nightshade-free.
Ingredients
- — Meatballs —
- 1 lb grass-fed ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1/4 cup almond flour
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp beef bone broth
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- Sea salt and black pepper to taste
- — Fusion Brown Sauce —
- 1 cup beef bone broth
- 1/2 cup full-fat coconut milk (or cashew cream)
- 1 tbsp coconut aminos
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1–2 tsp arrowroot powder (whisked into a little cold water first)
Method
- 1
Make the meatballs: In a large bowl, gently combine all meatball ingredients. Avoid over-mixing to keep them tender. Form into 1-inch rounds.
- 2
Air fry: Place meatballs in the air fryer basket at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes until browned and cooked through.
- 3
Make the sauce: While meatballs cook, bring the bone broth, coconut milk, coconut aminos, and Dijon mustard to a simmer in a pan over medium heat.
- 4
Thicken: Whisk in the arrowroot slurry and stir until the sauce thickens to a silky consistency.
- 5
Finish: Toss the hot meatballs directly into the sauce to coat. Optional — lightly zest a little lemon over the top right before serving to cut through the richness of the coconut milk.
Make it light
Cooking for the whole family? Keep the same cozy, nightshade-free flavor while dialing back the calorie density in your serving.
- Choose lean ground turkey or a leaner grass-fed beef blend for the meatballs.
- Use light canned coconut milk, or replace half the coconut milk with extra bone broth in the sauce.
- Serve the sauce on the side and spoon on only what you want.
- Pair with steamed green beans, a crisp salad, or cauliflower mash instead of a richer starch.
